In
1941, William F. Farrell, Sr. founded the Farrell Funeral Home in New Britain,
CT based on Commitment. He was born and raised in New Britain, graduated from
New Britain High School, attended Teachers College (now C.C.S.U.) and earned a
degree in funeral service and embalming from New York’s McAllister School of
Mortuary Science. Returning to New Britain, he began his career with the former
Frank Duffy Funeral Home in New Britain. He then became associated with Mr.
James Curtin of the former J.M. Curtin Funeral Home in New Britain.
While owning and operating his own funeral home on Franklin Square, Mr.
Farrell continued to assist with the embalming and funeral directing at the J.M.
Curtin Funeral Home until Mr. Curtin decided to retire and close
his facility in the late 1960's., For close to seventy years the Farrell Funeral
Home has been serving families in New Britain and surrounding
communities. Mr. Farrell provided his comfort and services to the families of
the Hartford Circus Fire in 1944. Coincidentally, Mr. Farrell and his future
wife, Helen McDonough, were in attendance the night before the fire. Today,
William F. Farrell, Jr. continues that commitment to community service by
providing support and sponsorship to organizations such as The Race in the Park,
Knights of Columbus, The B.P.O. Elks, Hospice VNA, Local Schools and Sporting
events, The Boys and Girls Club (as a Corpoator and Director), the New Britain Down Town District, the Manes & Motions Theraputic Riders,
and the Klingberg Family Centers. In addition, we are proud to be
independently owned and operated. It allows us to focus on the things that
matter the most, our community. When you call us, you talk to a friend, someone
who cares about your loss and will do whatever it takes to help you through a
difficult time.
